- Open MMC.
- On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then click Add.
- Under Snap-in, double-click the item you want to add, and, if prompted, do one of the following:
- Click Local computer: (the computer this console is running on), and then click Finish.
- If a wizard appears, follow the instructions.
- To add another item to the console, repeat step 3.
Notes
- To open MMC, click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
- If you add a snap-in to a console, and the snap-in becomes damaged, try adding another instance of the same snap-in to the console. Configure it as needed, and then remove the first instance of the snap-in.
- If a console is saved to the per-user Administrative Tools folder (located at systemdrive\Documents and Settings\user\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools), it is becomes available in the Administrative Tools folder on the Programs menu for that user.
- You can only access snap-ins published in Active Directory.
- A remote computer is entirely snap-in specific.
- If a snap-in does not appear in the list, you must first install the program, device, or service administered by the snap-in.
